Why?

WHY

1. Why a building?

A building is a small model of society. People live side by side while carrying different beliefs, fears, desires, and histories. They may share a wall without sharing a worldview.

The building allows these differences to become visible.

2. Why neighbors?

Neighbours are both intimate and distant. They are often the closest strangers in our lives.

By focusing on neighbours rather than public figures, the project asks how systems of separation enter ordinary life.

3. Why the Other?

The project explores the fragile boundary between "us" and "the Other."

  • When does fear become hate?

  • When does silence become complicity?

  • Can a neighbour be both victim and perpetrator?

Rather than offering answers, the project creates situations in which these questions can be observed.

4. Why the moment of collapse?

I am interested in thresholds rather than conclusions.

The project focuses on moments when a belief, relationship, conviction, or moral boundary begins to break.

These moments reveal how people become victims, perpetrators, witnesses, or bystanders.

Why Now?

We live in a period of growing polarization, fear, and the creation of enemies. Across different societies, people are increasingly asked to define who belongs and who does not.

Neighbours responds to these conditions by looking at the smallest social unit: the people who live beside us.
